PpSALM 144

Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld cautioned
in a press conference yesterday that as American troops advance toward Baghdad, the danger will intensify. The ever-present threat of biological and chemical weapons, deceptive tactics by the enemy (including faked surrenders and the use of human shields), punishing weather (sand storms with 100-mile-an-hour wind gusts), sleep deprivation, and fierce enemy resistance face our men and women on the field.

In addition, American prisoners of war face an uncertain fate at the hands of Iraqi captors. Thankfully, after initial brutality to POW’s was
shown by Arab television, the Iraqi government issued a statement ordering that POW’s be
treated humanely.

LET US PRAY the words of Psalm 144:1-8 for our troops today:

"Praise be to the Lord my Rock, who trains my
hands for war, my fingers for battle. He is my
loving God and my fortress, my stronghold and
my deliverer, my shield, in whom I take refuge,
who subdues peoples under me….

"Part your heavens, O Lord and come down; touch the mountains, so that they smoke. Send forth lightning and scatter the enemies; shoot your
arrows and rout them. Reach down your hand
from on high; deliver me and rescue me from
the mighty oaters from the hands of foreigners
whose mouths are full of lies, whose right
hands are deceitful."
